And having to add reinforcement for hinges and latches doesn't help with the weight problem.

It would be kind of neat, and might solve some problems, if the entire front section tilted. But I think in order to do it, the entire thing would need to be one piece. Maybe since the nose/bumper is going to be fiberglass anyway, expanding it to include the hood and fenders might be an option.
